To help parents and runners to understand which category a runner is in, please refer to the following:

Under 9

Year of birth 2018, 2017, 2016

Age on 31-Dec-2024

6 (from date of 6th birthday) 7 or 8

Under 15

Year of birth 2011, 2010

Age on 31-Dec-2024

13 or 14

Under 11

Year of birth 2015, 2014

Routes

Under 9 / 1km

The Under 9 challenge age group will complete a fully marked 1km route within the area known as Dobby Shaw south of the Newfield Inn at Seathwaite.

Under 11 / 2km

The Under 11 challenge age group will complete a fully marked 2km route within the area known as Dobby Shaw south of the Newfield Inn at Seathwaite.

​

Under 13 / 2.9km

The Under 13 Championship age group will climb up to a gate in the wall at SD 239 953 before descending NW to rejoin the outward path back to the finish.

Under 15 / 5km

The Under 15 Championship age group will climb to a footpath / bridlepath junction, taking the bridlepath south before turning SW through a gate in the wall at SD 239 953 before descending N to rejoin the outward path back to the finish.

Under 17 / 6.3km

The Under 17 Championship age group will climb to a footpath / bridlepath junction, taking the bridlepath south before turning SW for a steady climb to the summit of Caw.  A final plunging descent will first go over a ladder stile before the final drop to the finish.

Under 19 / 9.4km

The Under 19 Championship age group will be joined by the Senior race, taking good paths in a generally NE direction to join the Walna Scar Road which is followed steeply uphill to the col.  Then contour SW below White Maiden to the summit of White Pike.  Backtrack slightly to find a steep grassy descent to cross both a bridleway and footpath.  Then climb steadily to the summit of Caw before the final plunging descent over a ladder stile and back to the finish.
